Santa Maria at a Glance
Delicious smells waft over Santa Maria on most weekends. The smells are beef or
chicken roasting over red oak coals in portable barbeque pits. The California
city is famous for Santa Maria-style barbecue and is pleased to share this long
tradition of hospitality with guests. Located in Central
Coast wine country, area wineries produce grapes and vintage wines that rival
those of the Napa Valley. The
city proudly hosts the Museum
of Flight, the interactive Discovery
Museum and the Santa
Maria Valley Railway Historical Museum, as well as the annual Santa
Barbara County Fair, which takes place in July. Hiking, biking and golfing
at one of the city's two public courses also supply year-round family fun and
entertainment. The popular Strawberry
Festival is an annual celebration of the area's leading agricultural product
and provides another opportunity for Santa Maria to welcome visitors to the area
in April.
